CAE WRITING - LETTER

You recently had a meal at your friend David’s restaurant, on the same evening that a food critic was there. The critic’s revie has since appeared in local newspaper.

Read an extract from the review, and the motes you have made on it. Then, using the information appropriately, write a letter to the editor of the newspaper, giving reaosns why you disagree with the review and explaining why you recommend the restaurant.

As the restaurant has only recently opned, one would expect an excellent evening out, but our experience was disappointing.

The food was supposed to be ‘authentic French’ but I doubt the chef ever been to France. The other diners were equally disappointed

The owner also never made an appearance that night, which you would expect ....

No! 1992!

Not right! Give details of Chef’s background

Wrong! Clearly happy – say wing

True but good reason for it.

MODEL ANSWER:

Dear Editor,

I am writing to take issue with the review of the cafe Perigord, published in your newspaper, 18/10/08. I was dinning there on the same night as your critic, Mike champion, and in my opinion his comments are completely unfair.

First of all, Mr. Champion should have checked his facts as the restaurants was established in 1992, and has not just ‘recently opened’. The fact that it has been running for such a long time should show how popular it is.

Mr. Champion’s remarks on the food are also completely unjustified. If he had asked to meet the chef, he would have found out that he is actually form Perigord and has won many awards.

Regarding the other customers, the people I observed were obviously satisfied, judging by the tips and the extremely positive comments they made to the waiters.

It is true that the owner David Vaylet was not at the restaurant that night, but again, if Mr Champion had acquired he would have learnt that David  was off sick. In fact, this was the first time I have ever known David to miss work.

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to all your readers. I have been going there for many years and have always enjoyed truly excellent food and service.

Yours faithfully,

Khac Thuc
